OFF THE RECORD (1982 - 1991)

This series was originally conceived in 1996. The object of course was to transfer selected records to cassette tape so I could play them in the car. Careful programming was undertaken to ensure that each side ran as close to 30 minutes as possible (side note: by this time I had realised that the thinner tape in a C90 made it more likely to stretch so I was only using C60 as much as possible). A trait inherited from my mother was the instrumental as the last track on each side - Mum did this to use up the tape at the end and delibertely allowed the tape to run out - I programmed it to fit. I also chucked in a couple of 12" mixes for good measure.

I only made up one tape for each year 1984 - 1988, although the notation "volume 1" suggests I must have been planning much more. A 1989 volume was planned but never got recorded. I have the 1986 tape here but the others have been misplaced. I do believe they are still in existence. I found the working document containing the tracklistings for this series last year, and I had thoughts about reconstructing it. Now that I have done the four original TCF compilations, the time seemed right to jump in and do this too.

I took the liberty of expanding the series by two years at both ends, so it now runs 1982 - 1991. I selected about an hour's worth of tracks from each year, then I collected it all together and made the mixes.

During this project, about 30 brand new vinyl rips were done, so these tracks sound as fresh as possible. A few had to be sourced from lossy files due to obscurity and the absence of records I thought were in my library.

I am contemplating additional volumes in this series, but for now I'm going to enjoy the original TCF compilations from the 90's... hope you also enjoy the journey!
